

A normal machete might take a few hacks to kill someone, an upgraded one will take almost any enemy down in one swing. Upgrading your melee weapons not only “heals” them (make sure you do it when you just have a bar or two left) but it also turns them into one-hit kill machines, effectively doubling their lifespan. Gene’s guide said that you shouldn’t bother upgrading your weapons because you find so many you can swap in and out. Explore it, and you will trigger one of the best story cutscenes in the game, but it’s entirely optional, so you may miss it, which is why I’m telling you not to leave that area without doing this first.
